50'erne er tilbage! (50s are back!)

My fascination with vintage look started in Denmark.
I couldn't bear all the same people all around. As it often happens to couples, boy and girl start to look the same, happens on a large scale in DK. They came to such a perfection that somehow even women and men look alike.
The most shocking effect of homogeneity you will ever see... in the world of people studying - I mean few years of higher education - how to make an open sandwich, and only sandwich during these long years, which, by the way has a special name: Smorrebrod.
In the world of possibilities where you can also study, I mean S t u d y to become a pedel; means caretaker
Where no one judges your education; no marks at school till the age of 15.
Where everyone is equal; Nikolay Frederik Severin Grundtvig created theory: don't think you're better than others - don't think you're worse than others.
It castrated Danish society and took away ambition, competition, imagination, creativity, guts and spirit.
Once they used to chop thousands of villages and colonies as Berserks, totally drugged in wild rage. Nowadays they just move like blind ones in fog, slowly with empty expression on their faces, usually emptied from gleam and life, moved only by physiological impulses, ignoring even basics of the Rule Book of How-to-behave-in-society-in-Europe: nothing complicated... just easy things: use Please, give up a seat sometimes for someone, no jeans in opera, don't walk over someones seat in shoes in public places (scary to think what's in private space), let pass (older rule than the Santa Claus himself: First! Go out, Then! Go in - fortunately they do have short teaching film in trains).
They spend a fortune to look like shit(yes Mr G, I know you love it)
One of the most beautiful populations so skilled in keeping Homeless Cool Look.
It is heavy to observe so many people wearing The Same! Shoes, clothes, bags, the same brands and models, the same colours and patterns, homeless hairstyles - yes, it's to you Danish ladies.
And in all this, not even one gentleman. Died out species in Denmark.
Sometimes you ask yourself Do I See Things?
Difficult to recognize anybody... I always believed that no one wants to look like the neighbour next door, grocery seller just behind the corner, family member, partner, accountant, friend or 99% of people bumping into each other on the side walk.
Maybe they just practise camouflage in these difficult times ???
I do warmly recommend some more objective opinions:

So 50s are back on the cover of this Danish Elle !!! But not in Denmark.

For Danes: too much work... that's why here comes to all Danish ladies and Danish-wanna-be (I know plenty of them):

There are no ugly women, only lazy ones.

If you're closed in a small box with the same potatoes in shape and colour you simply forget that there are tomatoes, carrots and other things.

Ladies!!! Don't let them fool you! This amazing underwear is NOT Femme Fatale - which is just a lingerie shop in Copenhagen selling with significant profit - it is wonderful (if not polyester!) What Katie Did !!!
Don't be crazy, order online and pay less.

If you have any doubts just try this simple cut - out, stick to your photos and try! At least try!! to imagine that you can look differently.

Futuristic Retro Dame

Who haven't seen Blade Runner ???
Me - many many many times.
Long time ago I had quite negative feeling towards 30s - 50s. I hated black and white movies and couldn't understand the beauty of vintage style. So I didn't appreciate Rachel, her hairstyle and costumes.
But I just refreshed it and became obsessed with her!

I wondered how did they do that since the hair trial back scenes didn't really look so fluffy.

Padded arms are absolutely Perfect !

And Furs ! By the way... I just bought short vintage cream Lolita Lempicka faux fur. With huge arms and narrowed waist. I think it looks magnificent. But my sweetheart insist I remind a grizzly bear. Technically should be rather polar one.

Her second stylization is just like Luisa Casati style. I have no idea who created her looks but I'm sure a genius.

Judy Holliday

I love to look at her. She seemed to be more realistic than Marilyn Monroe and her voice is so ... always in the same tempo, sometimes with mocking tune, sounds like she's making nothing of everything. Which makes it even better in dramatic scenes.
Besides she actually appears in petticoated dresses. Have you ever seen Marilyn in one ???
Such a waste for the world was Judys death in her early 40s caused by breast cancer.
Yes! She was extremely intelligent and proved it in IQ tests.
Yes! Had Russian - Jewish roots.
Yes! I think she had to put her fingers in some communistic matters which placed her on the radio and tv black list for some years, otherwise she wouldn't be questioned about about it, right?... Shame on Judy Holliday !!! Shame !!!

For the first time I saw her in Born Yesterday (part 1/11, fallow the rest) and I had Not Enough of Judy Holliday.

She received Award for Best Actress winning over -and This Is Unbelievable- Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard (watch-it-immediately-movie) and Bette Davis and Anne Baxter in All about Eve (another watch-it-immediately).
I think I would have given award to Gloria Swanson or Bette Davis more likely. But it doesn't mean Judy wasn't in the same class.

Another great movie is Phffft! (part 1/7, fallow the rest) with Jack Lemmon !!!
It is actually really really funny !!! How-to-divorce plot.

Worth the time is also It should happen to you. It appeared on youtub a while ago but is not there anymore. About Gladys who always wanted to be famous and is addicted to exposing her name on huge billboards.

My three favourite ones.

Another one available on youtub is Bells are ringing. ( part 1/9, fallow the rest)
Musical from 1960. But I strongly recommend all above.

Judy Holliday is strongly addictive.

Vintage Makeup

There's a lot of how-to-do-great-vintage-makeup videos. I don't like most of them and usually I get really bored before it gets till the end. But these ones are different!
Helena Rubinstein videos:

1950s

1930s

There's nothing better than watching how professionals do it!

My favourite eye liner for I'm-in-a-hurry times is Yves Saint Laurent Easy Liner.
It's so easy... and sooo not waterproof.
That's why for more demanding look the best for me is MAC waterproof liquid eyeliner. Only some olive can remove it. Any olive is always good and you can also save some money on expensive makeup removers.

I really like porcelain complexion so to achieve it I constantly use whitening soap like Likas and creams with UV filters.

Not always I use foundation but powder YES! Just like hairspray.
Powder + Hairspray = necessity in finishing touch

It's so important to keep your skin healthy and even. If you do and when you're in a hurry don't use foundation, just powder your face and run!
I only use loose powders without any colour but recently Clinique and Estee Lauder don't work for me. It's transparent but it makes my face darker and I can see this terrible difference between my chin and decolletage. So I mix it with white loose powder:

I really like the look of Janet Leigh in 'Who was that Lady'. Everything! Clothes and eye makeup!

Also 'Come September' very nice movie!!!! with Gina Lollobrigida and so beautiful eyeliner shape!!!

From 30s my one and only is in the end Barbara Stanwyck but only in her femme fatale look that brought her possessive character in a real life and in the end divorce with her truly loved husband.
No eyeliner but lips...

Another star is Irene Dunne. She is absolutely great in the movie about divorce, love and the dog. I love the clothes! Yes she looks a bit like a polar bear in her first scene in this white huge fur but everything is so amusing!
And of course the scene as she's sitting depressed and apathetic in her apartment in this glorious long shiny dress not even thinking of going out !!! is the example for all ladies and
Ms H. who wander around home in ragged Tshirt.
Ms H. asked once for my boyfriends used army trousers, that even he didn't use anymore... so she could wear it at home. Fortunately my cat appeared to have more senses than Ms H. and peed on it. Sadly she didn't get it. I'm quite sure she didn't take it as a lucky coincidence and didn't learn the lesson.

Of course Betty Grable is always in truly Pin Up makeup, but perhaps her hairstyle is always more controversial than her makeup.
