crippling blond hair colour

For long months I was longing for a change on my head. I love all kind of changes. That's the only way to experience and vary. Change a flat every few years, rent a house in the forest, move to the huge city, change your job after few years, change a profession some time, if you're bored just recreate yourself from the beginning. Age has absolutely and fortunately nothing to do with it.

I do it all the time. Since I discovered that I'm afraid of only and only technical part of all these changes and that it's not so difficult in the end and brings every time a lot of freshness and adventures, I do it regularly.
But recently I rarely changed my hair colour.
Blonde destroyed and desiccated my hair. I couldn't keep it longer any more so it stayed with this unflattering length.
My friend, who happened to be a hairdresser, is a huge fan of champagne, warm blonde. For years I had this feeling something was wrong...I looked like a transvestite... sometimes.
He tried to convince me it's because of my always visible darker roots.
But no.
I discovered few weeks after dyeing it always started to be in extremely warmish shade. And 'warm' colours  are not mine.
Anyway as our ways went in separate directions, I guess it happens when one starts to expect the other one to be someone else and scolds for features that actually create one's personality, we stopped keeping the relation alive probably because of this huge lack of acceptance.
This is the beginning of 'How I got to MATRIX studio in Northampton'.
ChristianWiles
Harry, with 7 years of experience, chose for me this darker blonde. For the first time since 2009 my hair look actually healthy and there's even a shine.
I still don't recognize myself but feel so much better.
More like Barbara Stanwyck femme fatale...

who, by the way, looked very kitschy in screaming blond in 'Double Indemnity',

and finally less like a worse copy of Sandra Dee...

So, early (at noon) in the morning I run to shoot few self-photos, very often I can't decide if I see something live but on the photos I know immediately, and yes - I'm satisfied.
I am convinced my friend in the (constant) flow of self admiration and self glorification would trample my satisfaction, but well... he's not here and I feel truly Lighter now.
I didn't put any make up, I'm sorry... just tried to fix it with a lipstick later on and didn't want to wait.

I adore red hair !!! which I will never have because of my 'red face' effect. However I found bloggers advice how to maintain it: msK
It is difficult for me to believe what was there:
"by now my hair is getting used to only being washed every third or fourth day. My personal record is not washing it for 5 days, and my hair felt GREAT, no kidding. I actually felt like my hair said "I love you!!". When your hair goes greasy or feels a bit eww hide it in a bandana or wear a hat, it's getting close to winter anyway."
I guess everyone knows it but just so I feel better... Wash You Hair !!!
Ladies! Hygiene is a foundation of existence.
It was in times of my fathers when people thought: 'It will eventually become less dirty when you don't wash it.'
Almost everyone dye their hair, and everyone know that washing it takes out the colour. But it's like oxygen and breathing - it always goes together !!!
If you want to get drunk you'll pay for it the next day.
There's action and consequence.
Hair is just the same part of your body as skin and teeth. It gets dirty in the same way. Biological process doesn't stop 3cm above your eyebrows.
When your hair goes greasy or feels a bit eww hide it in a bandana or wear a hat, it's getting close to winter anyway.
When your hair feels eww or greasy WASH IT !!!
It is more than repulsive to put on 'it' anything. The smell, the look. Hopefully you won't meet your dream guy that day !
I would like to go a step further and suggest:
WASH IT Before it feels eww !!!
I cherish glamour every day, all day and strongly disagree with this what I'm reading at Miss K blog.
Also comments made me really disappointed:
Totally agree! being a faux red for 15 years the best thing you can do is not wash it! I wash mine twice a week max and it keeps the colour in so much longer and its not good to wash your hair lots anyway as it strips the hair of natural oils :)

'Natural Oils' !!!??? is there anything like this??? you mean Filth and Stench?
I guess/hope you're not single girls, for your own sake, suspecting laziness.
Blonde, Red... agree with consequences. It is fading but maintenance can NOT be hold by grease and lack of hygiene on your head !!!
I'll take it as Delirium.

However she is one of my favourites.
For Delirium was once Delight. And although that was long ago now, even today her eyes are badly matched: one eye is a vivid emerald green, spattered with silver flecks that move, her other eye is vein blue.

Vintage Makeup

There's a lot of how-to-do-great-vintage-makeup videos. I don't like most of them and usually I get really bored before it gets till the end. But these ones are different!
Helena Rubinstein videos:

1950s

1930s

There's nothing better than watching how professionals do it!

My favourite eye liner for I'm-in-a-hurry times is Yves Saint Laurent Easy Liner.
It's so easy... and sooo not waterproof.
That's why for more demanding look the best for me is MAC waterproof liquid eyeliner. Only some olive can remove it. Any olive is always good and you can also save some money on expensive makeup removers.

I really like porcelain complexion so to achieve it I constantly use whitening soap like Likas and creams with UV filters.

Not always I use foundation but powder YES! Just like hairspray.
Powder + Hairspray = necessity in finishing touch

It's so important to keep your skin healthy and even. If you do and when you're in a hurry don't use foundation, just powder your face and run!
I only use loose powders without any colour but recently Clinique and Estee Lauder don't work for me. It's transparent but it makes my face darker and I can see this terrible difference between my chin and decolletage. So I mix it with white loose powder:

I really like the look of Janet Leigh in 'Who was that Lady'. Everything! Clothes and eye makeup!

Also 'Come September' very nice movie!!!! with Gina Lollobrigida and so beautiful eyeliner shape!!!

From 30s my one and only is in the end Barbara Stanwyck but only in her femme fatale look that brought her possessive character in a real life and in the end divorce with her truly loved husband.
No eyeliner but lips...

Another star is Irene Dunne. She is absolutely great in the movie about divorce, love and the dog. I love the clothes! Yes she looks a bit like a polar bear in her first scene in this white huge fur but everything is so amusing!
And of course the scene as she's sitting depressed and apathetic in her apartment in this glorious long shiny dress not even thinking of going out !!! is the example for all ladies and
Ms H. who wander around home in ragged Tshirt.
Ms H. asked once for my boyfriends used army trousers, that even he didn't use anymore... so she could wear it at home. Fortunately my cat appeared to have more senses than Ms H. and peed on it. Sadly she didn't get it. I'm quite sure she didn't take it as a lucky coincidence and didn't learn the lesson.

Of course Betty Grable is always in truly Pin Up makeup, but perhaps her hairstyle is always more controversial than her makeup.

Movies from 50s

The best source of 50s look is in old movies.
All clothes, accessories, shoes, lingerie...everything is there. Especially hairstyles! Nothing is as good as movies.
I like also these showing old times and made nowadays simply because sexuality is shown. Original ones are rather short of passionate scenes.
So that is the first and primary step to know 40s and 50s and of course whatever period you want to know. However from 30s down movies may be a bit heavy: silent movies or very unclear image and sound.

You can find plenty of lists on the net suggesting what you should see, but me personally...
I worship these ones !!! :

All about Eve - 1950
Black and white. Amazingly built action. Really interesting. Marilyn Monroe passes here and there.
Mostly Bette Davis who's really a true star in this movie. Excellent movie about a sexy psycho :)

How to marry a millionaire - 1953
Who doesn't know this movie! Marilyn Monroe - Betty Grable. It's a simple romance - comedy but dresses are really something! And in color.

Since I've seen it I got obsessed with a long elegant house coat / bath robe.

...and this amazing dress which all you know. I'm sorry - here black and white.
Photo: Marilyn probably with a stylist

In the beginning Betty Grable comes in this sapphire-blue dress with pinkish petticoat. It looks really volumetric.
I wonder how many layers does it have?
What is it made from??

Sunset Boulevard - 1950
YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS ONE!! Film Noir - My favourite type!
You won't find here really original 50s clothing. The main star is Gloria Swanson as famous Norma Desmond.
She playes kind of herself... Gloria Swanson was very famous silent movie star. Her carrier went down together with cinematography development.
She was already a lady getting closer to forty and she didn't feel well in current fashion style. Her waist wasn't so tiny anymore and that was the main key in fashion.
So stylist proposed her Dior new look.
Beautiful black and white. Camera man used to spread powder before shooting house scenes to make a picture more special.

Sorry wrong number - 1948
Another classic noir with Barbara Stanwyck. She has created so many movies in this style. Amazing actress. Her voice and unique features of the face are worth seeing.
And the best news! This one you can watch on youtube :)
Search it as: 'sorry wrong number part 1'
You can see some clothes and hairstyles, everything in 40s style.
But I'd say you'll get into action.
Sick rich woman suddenly accidently hears on the phone conversation of two men planning a murder...

By the way, some other movies you can easily watch on youtube with Barbara Stanwyck. All in the same diagram.

Double Indemnity

Thelma Jordan - 1950
I haven't finish this one yet. Noir.
Thelma Jordan part 1

Marriage on the rocks - 1965
I know it is 60s in color but it's worth it! It is funny. There are some appreciate garments.
I forced even my boyfriend to watch it :)

Deborah Kerr became a bit forgotten actress.
But she's very nice to look at in 'An affair to remember', 'From here to eternity'.

All Hitchcock movies. So good glance at 1940s 1950s and 1960s.
You can find there everything. Style, glamour, divas and all stylizations you need.

To catch a thief - 1955

I confess - 1953

Dial M for Murder - 1954

I'll give only some examples of these which you can fully watch on the net :)
Rebecca - 1940
..well as far as I remember you can not find here so glamorous gowns..but for sure mistery
Rebecca part 1

Notorious - 1946
I love Cary Grant!
Notorious part1

Lifeboat - 1943
a bit of glamour but only in the first scenes so if you want it now..leave this film for later
lifeboat part 1

This post is already too long. I could write and write about these old movies. I'll try to write about most important currently. I watch them all the time...whatever I do, yoga, painting, repairing my vintage clothes.
I rent them from video rental, from library or try to find on youtube - which is not easy sometimes.
And the last thing! Movies recommended by Dita von Teese:

'Ziegfeld Girl' and 'Pin Up Girl' you can find in the whole piece on the net :)
Let me know if you have problems, maybe I can help.
Number 1,3,6 I'm still looking.

So get inspired! and study 50s 40s look.
